When a patient has not improved enough with standard treatment, TMS may be worth considering. At The Mind Grove TMS Center, we evaluate patients for standard rTMS, iTBS, and Accelerated TMS within a physician-led psychiatric care model.
Our practice was founded by Megan Bowers, MD, PhD, a dual ABPN board-certified psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. We use MagVenture technology and take a careful clinical approach to each referral, including the patient’s diagnosis, treatment history, current medications, safety considerations, and care already in place.
TMS is not the right fit for every patient. Our goal is to determine whether TMS belongs in the patient’s broader treatment plan, and if so, which protocol is most appropriate.
The Mind Grove TMS Center was founded and is directed by a dual-board certified child and adolescent and adult psychiatrist. Dr. Bowers has also served as the sole medical doctor for a TMS clinic prior to founding The Mind Grove TMS Center, has decades of experience in basic and translational research in the fields of developmental genetics and neurobiology, and continues to engage with the newest developments in the field as a member of the Clinical TMS Society.
When you refer a patient to The Mind Grove you can feel confident that all clinical decisions are being made by a physician with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of mental health conditions, and a scientist with the knowledge and training needed to make thoughtful decisions about emerging evidence-based TMS protocols.
You can rely on timely and consistent communication from Dr. Bowers before and after you refer a client/patient to The Mind Grove TMS Center:
Please note that all communications between Dr. Bowers and referring clinicians during TMS treatment will require an ROI to be signed by the patient.
We evaluate patients ages 15 and older who may be appropriate for TMS care for depression-related conditions, including:
For adults with generalized anxiety disorder or PTSD, TMS may be considered on an off-label basis when the clinical picture supports that discussion. TMS is now FDA-cleared for PTSD if combined with quantitative EEG using the MagVenture device. TMS is not FDA-cleared for GAD. However, neither GAD nor PTSD are currently covered by insurance for those primary indications. Please note that insurance will cover TMS treatment of patients with PTSD and GAD if those diagnoses are co-morbid with treatment-resistant depression, and treatment-resistant depression is the primary indication for TMS. Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Bowers to discuss your patient’s unique clinical scenario.
TMS is FDA-cleared and generally covered by insurance for qualifying patients ages 15 and older with depression-related indications. Coverage varies by payer, diagnosis, and medical-necessity criteria. Colorado Medicaid does not cover TMS.
There is growing evidence that specific medications, specifically glutamate modulators (ketamine, D-cycloserine, Auvelity) may increase the effectiveness of TMS when used as augmentation agents during TMS treatment. Dr. Bowers may incorporate the use of augmenting agents alongside TMS when it is considered safe and appropriate for the patient and protocol being applied. Any psychotropic medication adjustments to the patients antidepressants suggested by Dr. Bowers will be discussed with the patients primary psychiatrist or PCP, and the primary psychiatrist will remain the patients medication prescriber during and after TMS treatment. Augmenting agents will be prescribed by Dr. Bowers, and only during the duration of the TMS treatment course.
We are focused on TMS, but we do not treat TMS as separate from the rest of psychiatric care. Patients often come to us with existing medications, established therapeutic relationships, referring clinicians, and complex treatment histories.
Before recommending standard rTMS, iTBS, Accelerated TMS, augmentation with medication, or another next step, we consider this full clinical context.
The Mind Grove TMS Center provides Accelerated TMS in Colorado Springs for qualifying adults with major depressive disorder, treatment-resistant depression, and MDD with co-occurring anxiety symptoms.
For patients considering TMS, Dr. Bowers evaluates whether standard rTMS, iTBS, Accelerated TMS, medication management, or a combination of care best fits the patient’s clinical needs.
